2. Is SecureSiteIT Right for My Business?

 

Your systems need to be up all the time. When hardware fails, the backup needs to be good and the recovery plan clear.

 

Do you have good backups?
Sure, someone set up a backup plan months or years ago, but how can you know that it is still working? You don't want to wait until that backup is needed to find out that it's been broken for a long time. Checking just today isn't enough – what if it breaks tomorrow? You need continuous checking.

 

Is your server healthy?
Disks and storage systems have sufficient space (Windows hates running out)? No aberrant software using up CPU time? Again, just checking today isn't enough. These (and more) should be constantly watched so when something changes, action can be immediately taken.

 

Do your SQL Server applications run slow or hang?

Slow performance and hangs caused by blocks reduce user satisfaction and confidence in the system. These problems tend to be intermittent and are not consistently reported by users. We monitor performance and blocks to identify problems and then step in as DBA to resolve.

 

Does anyone know (or care) when your server is under attack?
Hacks are a constant threat and systems should be continuously monitored to help prevent them.

 

Got ransomware early warnings?
Most ransomware victims don't find out they're under attack until most of their data is gone. Good backups are key to surviving, but down-time and recovery costs are minimized when the problem is caught early.

We have XYZ Antivirus. Why isn't that enough? What is a heterogeneous defense?
Preventing attack is certainly advisable and we absolutely do recommend having traditional Anti-virus/Anti-malware. Much of the time this is going work well. However, attackers know that most servers run the common AV software such as Symantec, Trend, Windows Defender. They're expecting these defenses and often have exploits to avoid detection.  Further, the attack might originate at an infected workstation or some other indirect route which bypasses some of your server defenses. Our systems are intended to detect the behavior of attacks that slip through.
Our methods are different and thus less likely to be detected by the attacker. Having a heterogeneous defense (i.e. an unusual one) makes early detection more likely.

 

Can't our IT team do this?
Ideally, your IT team (on-staff or consultants) are keeping an eagle eye on the above at all times. In reality, IT resources are always stretched and pressure to complete projects means the routine (but critical) tasks are often deferred until a problem occurs.
